Back to School, Back to Work
Fall is here, and that means we’re all back to school, back to work and back at it!
The Globe and Mail: …
Keep This News in Perspective
An article in The Globe and Mail this past month mentioned that Vancouver’s real estate market jumped by more than half compared to August 2012. It’s important to keep this news in perspective, though, remembering that August 2012 was a particularly slow month for real estate because of federal changes to mortgage rules last summer and that total sales for August this year were still almost 5% lower than the 10-year average.
What this does mean is that the market seems to be trending toward greater stability. The Globe and Mail article quotes Sandra Wyant, president of the Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver: “Buyers and sellers need to recognize that this is an increase in sales. Some buyers might be getting apprehensive that prices are about to surge, but this is a balanced market with stable prices.”
This encouraging resilience leads us to believe that the housing market crash many were fearing in Vancouver is unlikely. The market is still recovering and will likely continue to improve over coming years. We’re also predicting that mortgage rates could trend upward, so it’s a good idea to get yourself into the market sooner rather than later if you’re waffling over waiting or jumping on a home purchase. Now truly is the right time to buy.
The summer went by in a blink!
We did a bit of camping, and I took an amazing trip to the Big Apple with three generations of my family: my mom, my sister and my niece. It was my first time there. My sister played tour director and we saw all the sights, took a carriage ride in Central Park and just basked in the vibe of New York. And now, I can’t believe we are back to school already! The boys have totally settled back into the routine, and we have even started soccer already.
